6. STRONG EAST WIND
Exodus 14:21 & 22 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea.
The Lord drove the sea back by a strong east wind all night, and turned
the sea into dry land; and the waters were divided. The Israelites went
into the sea on dry ground, the waters forming a wall for them on their
right and on their left. In this narrative the strong wind parted the sea to
enable the Israelites to cross safely while the pursuing Egyptian soldiers
were drowned when they attempted to cross. In north east Egypt and the
eastern Mediterranean the east wind comes from desert or mountain regions.
It is an arid, withering wind, very hot in summer and very cold in winter. |
