14. SOUTH WIND
Acts 27:13 When a moderate south wind began to blow, they
thought they could achieve their purpose; so they weighed anchor and began
to sail past Crete, close to the shore. This describes part of Pauls third voyage. The ship had taken shelter in Fair Havens harbour, Crete. In September the decision was taken to sail to the haven of Phoenix, a short distance away, because the facilities there were considered better for a winter stay. The risk of adverse weather conditions in the Mediterranean Sea increases in winter. So when a promising day of moderate south wind arrived, they weighed anchor and sailed to Phoenix. |
