Walks
The
Bishop of Exeter, The Right Reverend Michael
Langrish and The Roman Catholic Bishop of
Plymouth, the Right Reverend Christopher Budd
will each lead a walk of witness along the East
and West Lyn Rivers. Both walks will pass
locations that were seriously affected on the
night of 15th August 1952, and converge on
Lyndale Bridge, Lynmouth for the unveiling of
the Memorial Cross.

The
walk along the East Lyn River footpath begins at Hillsford Bridge, a
highly significant venue and link between the villages
50 years ago. This walk will be led by the Bishop of Exeter. There is car
parking at Hillsford Bridge. (OS Grid Ref 740477), or use one of the
courtesy buses that will leave Lynton Town Hall at l.l5pm prompt. This
is the longer and more strenuous
of the two walks but is entirely on the
footpath that goes through the National Trust Watersmeet Estate.

The
walk along the footpath adjacent to the West Lyn begins from Barbrook,
lead by The Bishop of Plymouth. Meet at Barbrook Church at 1.45pm (OS Grid
Ref. 714477). The final part of this walk will be along the public
highway, and will be supervised by the local police for safety sake. This
is the shorter and easier of the two walks.
