Walks

Guest Book
If you intend to participate on one of the walks we would be grateful if you could leave a message on the Guest Book saying which walk and how many people will be in your party.

The Bishop of Exeter, The Right Reverend Michael Langrish and The Roman Catholic Bishop of Plymouth, the Right Reverend Christopher Budd will each lead a walk of witness along the East and West Lyn Rivers. Both walks will pass locations that were seriously affected on the night of 15th August 1952, and converge on Lyndale Bridge, Lynmouth for the unveiling of the Memorial Cross.

The walk along the East Lyn River footpath begins at Hillsford Bridge, a highly significant venue and link between the villages 50 years ago. This walk will be led by the Bishop of Exeter. There is car parking at Hillsford Bridge. (OS Grid Ref 740477), or use one of the courtesy buses that will leave Lynton Town Hall at l.l5pm prompt. This is the longer and more  strenuous of the two walks but is entirely on the footpath that goes through the National Trust Watersmeet Estate.

The walk along the footpath adjacent to the West Lyn begins from Barbrook, lead by The Bishop of Plymouth. Meet at Barbrook Church at 1.45pm (OS Grid Ref. 714477). The final part of this walk will be along the public highway, and will be supervised by the local police for safety sake. This is the shorter and easier of the two walks.
