Lynton
with Lynmouth has a population of approx. 2,000 with the nearest towns of
Ilfracombe, Barnstaple and Minehead being 20 miles away.
The
history of the school building goes back to 1844. Various additions have
been built over the years, the most extensive being the modernisation of
1975. Further major building works took place during the Spring/Summer
Term of 2002 with the addition of a new classroom, reception area and
offices at ground level and internal alterations to incorporate a
multi-purpose hall, providing the very best accommodation for our pupils.
We
believe that children can only achieve their best if there is close
co-operation between home and school. Parents/carers are encouraged to
share in their child's education and we endeavour to help parents/carers
understand the aims and objectives of the school and how these are
supported in the educational programme followed by the:
West
Exmoor Federation of Schools
In
January 2007, Lynton CE Primary School became part of The West Exmoor
Federation; the first federation of primary schools within North Devon.
The federation comprises of Lynton CE (VA) Primary School, Parracombe
CE (VC) Primary and Kentisbury
Community Primary School.
Currently we are the only federation in the country that is made up
of a Voluntary Aided, Voluntary Controlled and Community school. The
schools are geographically very close, situated within nine miles of each
other, on the beautiful North Devon coast, close to or within the Exmoor
National Park - an enviable environment for any childs education.
As
a Federation we are able to offer the best of both worlds.
Individually, we are able to offer all the advantages of a small school,
primarily the caring and supportive family environment that allows
the specific needs of all children to be nurtured.
Together, we can also offer the benefits of the larger school such
as specialist teachers, a wide range of enrichment activities, joint
residential activities, shared mini-bus and a broader friendship base for
your children.
