The LCDT was set up in December 1998 to manage previously LA owned properties to the benefit of the community. Its long term aim is to create sufficient income so that it can grant aid community projects in the area. Its first project was to act as the financial body to enable NDDC to convert the Market Hall in Lynton to become a new library and IT centre.
More recently the Trust has purchased Middleham Gardens from a now defunct trust to create a garden and space in memory of those that lost their lives in the Lynmouth Flood in 1952. This is now nearly completed and will be open to tourists and visitors to enjoy the view of the East Lyn river and for quiet recreation.
In 2003 the Trust became the accountable body for Exmoor Vision and the future working of the Trust with EV will be the subject of much of our deliberations. This association has provided the Trust with many projects and ideas and made us a more versatile and diverse body.
Some of the current activities of the Lyn Community Development Trust are the gaining of Walkers are Welcome accreditation for the area, the maintenance of Middleham Gardens, the management of the Market Hall and supporting the Neighbourhood Plan.
