Part of the joy of spinning is the
variety of materials available. Foremost is the fleece of a sheep
which you can sort,
wash, tease and card yourself. There are some 40 different sheep breeds
in this country varying from coarse to fine fleece with different
staple lengths of 3 to 4cm up to 30 to 40cm, according to its suitability
used for carpets, socks, outdoor garments, etc.
You can also spin the combings of Angora rabbit, longer haired
cats or dogs. The fleece of
goats for mohair, alpacas and llamas are also available.
Then there is cotton, silk and flax to produce linen.
